The team spend all day helping Manchester businesses find the right office space, but what about our own? When it came to our own patch, Castlefield’s Knott Mill was the obvious choice. With a few of our own properties in the same area, we don’t just sell this neighbourhood, we work in it!
Castlefield’s Knott Mill is a historic, character filled neighbourhood, known for its heritage warehouse architecture, riverside spots, and regeneration into a thriving residential and commercial district. Tucked between Deansgate, Whitworth Street West and the River Medlock, it’s a small but fast-evolving corner of the city.
The area prioritises character over corporate. The Boardwalk on Little Peter Street was once a nightclub and rehearsal space, best known as the venue for Oasis’s first ever performance, and a regular rehearsal spot for bands like the Stone Roses. Tony Wilson, the owner of Factory Records, TV presenter and nightclub manager, had an apartment at 10a Little Peter Street.
The railway arches lining Hewitt Street are home to Mancoco, a well-loved coffee shop, where you can often spot one of the team in the morning. Nearby, Commercial Wharf evolved from industrial canalside goods yards into a modern, characterful workspace that backs onto the River Medlock. If you’ve ever driven on the Mancunian Way, you may have noticed the squashed, toilet-tube-shaped structure known as The Pod. This landmark office space landed back in 2000 and was originally Urban Splash’s sales suite for its regeneration of the area, including the award-winning Timber Wharf.
