The developer is to begin construction in June after winning planning consent for a 26,100 sq ft building on the business park, pre-let to materials science company Dow.

Dow signed a deal for the business in December last year and will bring its UK headquarters to Cheadle once the building completes in spring 2020. As well as its national management team, technical, and sales functions, the building will also house a product research and development facility.

Following planning approval by Stockport Council, construction is set to begin in the summer, although a contractor is yet to be appointed.

US-headquartered Dow was founded in 1897 and has been operating in the UK since the 1950s. Other sites in the country include at King’s Lynn, Cambridge, Dewsbury, and Cambridge.

Other businesses based at the £175m Cheadle Royal Business Park include Together Money, Jarden, Jacobs Engineering, and Agilent Technologies.

Dow’s HQ will be on the plot Oakfield 4 at the business park, near Jacobs Engineering’s existing office, leaving Lakeside 5000 as the only further plot available.

Canning O’Neill and Cushman & Wakefield are the joint agents on Cheadle Royal Business Park.

Greg Ball, development surveyor at Muse, said: “Gaining planning approval for this bespoke building is a key milestone for Cheadle Royal, and means that we can now progress with delivering this fantastic new addition to the business park.

“Attracting Dow is a significant accomplishment, which will bring highly-skilled jobs to the area and we look forward to welcoming them to their new home.”

John Case, president UK & Ireland, Dow added: “We look forward to seeing our new UK & Ireland headquarters in Cheadle Royal start to take shape this summer, as the state-of-the-art facilities will support our continued growth.”
