Acting on behalf of Elite Amphora Ltd, property consultancy Canning O’Neill has completed the sale of the former JobCentre on Cornwall Street in Openshaw to Land and Securities Ltd.
Elite Amphora acquired the 13,133 sq ft property as part of a wider portfolio of DWP occupied assets. Originally built as an Employment Exchange in 1939, we understand it has been in constant use since. The JobCentre Plus relocated in December 2022 to the new ‘Gorton Hub’ on Hyde Road.
Speaking about the deal, John Nash, director at Canning O’Neill, commented: “This was an interesting instruction as it is unusual to have a building that has been in the same use for over 80 years. We’re delighted to have concluded a transaction so quickly following our instruction and pleased to see that it will be back in use so quickly after the JobCentre vacated.”
Chris Marsden of Land and Securities commented: “This is a property that really got our interest as soon as we saw it come to the market and we were thrilled to be able to conclude swiftly. We’ll be investing in updating the property and looking forward to moving our teams across.”
Land and Securities were unrespresented.
